Who is eligible for this coverage?
You are guaranteed acceptance in this plan if you are under age 70 and actively engaged as a full-time physician (including full-time medical students and residents) or retired.
Your spouse or domestic partner, under age 70, and all your dependent children through age 26 are also guaranteed acceptance as dependents under your coverage.
Do I have to get a medical exam to qualify for coverage?
No. No medical testing or health questions are required to enroll; your acceptance is guaranteed.
What if I have a pre-existing condition? Can I still enroll in this insurance plan?
Yes. As a physician, you are guaranteed approval for this coverage as long as you are under age 70. No pre-existing condition limitations apply, and no medical exam is required.
If your spouse and children meet the eligibility requirements, their approval as dependents under your coverage is also guaranteed.
How much coverage can I get?
You can select $1,000,000, $750,000 or $500,000 in coverage.
How do I figure out what my premium will be?
Is membership in the AMA required?
No. Membership in the AMA is not required to enroll, although Members pay less.
What does this insurance cover?
This plan pays benefits for accidental death or specified injuries related to a covered accident.
Who receives the benefits?
Your benefits go directly to you or to your beneficiary, not to a doctor or hospital.
How soon will my coverage begin?
Your coverage is effective upon our receipt of your enrollment form, provided your first premium is paid when due and as described in the “Effective Date” section on this FAQ page.
How do I enroll?
To enroll for this insurance, visit our online enrollment site or download an application.
Do I have to pay my first premium when I enroll?
No. You will not be asked to send any payment now or to provide any credit card or other confidential information with your enrollment form. Your first premium payment is not due until after you receive your billing notice, which will be enclosed with your Certificate of Insurance.
What if I enroll then change my mind?
You’ll have a full 30 days after you receive your Certificate of Insurance to make sure you’re completely satisfied with your coverage. If you change your mind, you can return your certificate without claim within that 30-day period your coverage will be invalidated and you will get a full refund of any premium paid.
